The Problem

Your rod's plumb vial
can drift — and you'd never know.

Survey rods take a beating in the field. Vibration, temperature swings, and impact can knock plumb vials out of true calibration. The PlumbRod™ Calibration Jig makes regular rod checks fast, simple, and affordable.

Surveyor checking rod level in field

Simple Setup

Calibrated in three steps.

1

Mount the Upper Bracket

Mount the upper bracket approximately 2.3 meters above the floor using the included washers and screws. A standard drill and level are all you need.

2

Set the Lower Bracket

Suspend the plumb bob and mount the lower bracket beneath it. Rotate the calibration dial until the target point is precisely under the plumb bob tip, then tighten.

3

Check & Calibrate

Place the rod tip in the bottom plate and attach the rod to the top bracket. Calibrate your vial to true plumb. Check your rod regularly — keeping that vial dialed in keeps your residuals tight!

Got Questions?

Frequently Asked

The PlumbRod™ works with any standard 2-meter survey rod using a 5/8"-11 UNC threaded tip — which covers the vast majority of rods used in professional land surveying in North America.
The suspended plumb bob establishes a true gravity-referenced vertical — the most accurate vertical reference possible. Accuracy is limited only by the quality of your plumb bob and air stillness in the room, not by the PlumbRod™ jig itself.
Both. The PlumbRod™ gives you a true plumb reference to compare against. If your bubble reads off when placed in the jig, you can adjust your rod's vial to match the reference while it's seated — all in one step.
Most surveyors are up and running in under 5 minutes. Mount the upper bracket, mount the lower bracket approximately 2 meters below, hang the plumb bob, seat your rod tip in the locating disc, and you're calibrating.
No. While you can leave the brackets permanently mounted if you have a dedicated calibration spot, the brackets are small and unobtrusive. Many surveyors mount them in a corner of their office or shop and leave them in place for quick pre-job checks.
